Description:
The North Kohala Microgrid features a containerized alternative operating platform with a proprietary set of controls which enable a commercial-scale wind turbine, the Northern Power Systems 100 kilowatt (kW) turbine, coupled with Gen-X's proprietary power cube, to power a water pumping facility for diversified agricultural operations in North Kohala. Partially funded by the US Department of Energy through the Hawaii Renewable Energy Development Venture, the scalable and easily deployable system was inspired by solving a growing challenge of grid saturation as well as powering remote locations in Hawaii. The system is carefully designed to optimize renewable energy generation and load balancing which eliminates the curtailment problem.
